Description | By this we open the public sale for the fees of carriages used for transporting people, money and merchants’ goods for a period of one year from the beginning of Mart (1)314 until Shubât of the same year. All carriages working inside and outside of the (old) city along with those going to Qalfuria (?) and ‘Ayn Kârim and the area of our Lady Mariam and the train stations and Bethlehem are charged two piasters if they are pulled by two or more horses, one piaster and a half if they are pulled by one horse. And the carriages transporting merchants’s goods and money from the mentioned places and places inside and outside of the (old) city and its environs are charged five piasters and thirty para. And Bethlehem carriages going beyond old city stations to work in Jerusalem or not once or more per day are charged two piasters and a half daily. Private carriages which are not for hire along with those going to Jaffa and Hebron and Jericho, and those transporting the post and not working during the day and the carriages working between the mentioned stations in Bethlehem, are exempted. Hotel carriages going to train stations to pick up foreigners or transport tourists or other people to parts of the city have to pay a fee of four piasters. These fees are mîrî, and the amounts decided have to be paid in twelve installments beginning in Mart (1)314. Everyone who is interested should present a guarantor wishing to assume the guarantee (?), which will be ______ by the council, and the brokerage taxes (rusûm al dalâla) earned by the tax farmer, on the 29th of Kânûn thâni (1)313 (10th of February 1898).
